LWers dance their way to the ballroom championship crown

Evelyn Velez and Caryl Ann Hathaway began taking ballroom lessons four years ago at Dance Around the Clock Orange County, now in downtown Seal Beach. Aside from the physical challenge, it is a fantastic brain-boosting sport that enriches both of their lives socially.

Velez and Hathaway were crowned the 2023 North American Same Sex International Ballroom Senior Champions in July, and competed this past weekend at the Hollywood Dancesport Championships at Universal Studios. They also placed first in Senior Pre-Champion International Ballroom as well as Senior International Ballroom Open Championship. It’s good to be a senior.

The next adventure for Velez and Hathaway is to take social and Latin dance lessons for competitions next year. They currently reside in Mutual 6 but are excited to be moving to Mutual 15 next month.
