Men’s Golf Club

On Sept. 27 the Leisure World Men’s Golf Club played its second September tournament at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. The weather was cool at the 7:30 a.m. start but turned into a sunny and warm morning. The course continues to be in good condition with no dramatic wet spots or weed patches on the greens, plus it appears the divot fix bottles now have seed in them.

Two groups of three flights of variously skilled golfers played for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius are rewarded), and four closestto- the-pin challenges.

A total of 54 golfers competed on the course. With nice weather conditions there were 50 birdies and six circle hole winners. Additionally, 20 of 54 golfers were net at or under par. Closest to the pin on the second hole was Tom Owens and on the 11th hole was Dong Kim. Low net score was Steve Walker at nine under 45, followed by Pat Paternoster at eight under 46, with five other golfers at or under net 50.

All scores below are net— gross score minus handicap.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-7): Pat Paternoster, first place; Fujio Norihiro, second; Won Song, third; tie between Alan Sewell, Bill Lyons, and Andrew Kim, fourth; tie between Bob Turner and Bob Barnum, fifth; Bill Long, sixth; John Kolthoff, seventh.

B flight winners (handicaps of 8-12): Steve Walker, first place; tie between Paul Alloway and Byron Schweitzer, second; Mark Rice, third; Ron Steele, fourth; Seung Lee, fifth; tie between Jun Um and Ron Jackson, sixth; Don Roberson, seventh; tie between James Farr, Richard Yokomi, Dennis McMonigle and Ben Benjamins, eighth. C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Manny Miranda, first place; Paul Shellenberger, second; John Sorenson, third; James Choi, fourth; tie between Jon Russell, Dennis Actil, and Bill Zurn, fifth.

The next men’s tournament will be on Oct. 11, and every second and fourth Wednesday of the following months. Those who had planned to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.

—Dave LaCascia Golf etiquette suggests one never walks across the line of another golfer's putt or talk while someone is hitting.
