Friday Golf at David L. Baker Golf Course

On March 31, 14 golfers contested the 4,000-yard, par 62 David L. Baker Golf Course in Fountain Valley.

The day was cool and initially overcast. The fairways were wet and not in great shape with lots of wet spots and muddy areas due to the recent heavy rains. However, the greens remained in great condition.

Jim Goltra had three birdies; Dave LaCascia had two; Tim Looney, Clay Fischer, and Eric Vaden had one each. LaCascia had fewest putts in the A flight and Vaden had the fewest for the B flight. Goltra was closest to the pin on the par three, 12th hole, and Bill McKusky was closest on the par three, third hole.

Flight A winners: Jim Goltra got a first place with terrific six under 56; LaCascia, second, with a well-played four under 58; third place was a tie between Gary Stivers and McKusky, with a hard-earned three under 59; and fourth place was also a tie between Larry Hillhouse, Tim Looney and Chris Lankford.

Flight B winners: First place was a tie between Vaden and Fischer, an excellent nine under 53; Bob Munn, second, with a terrific six under 56; third place was a tie between Gene Vesely and Ron Jackson, a nice five under 57; and fourth place was also a tie between Lowell, Goltra, and Fujio Norihiro, with a good one under 61.

The fairways were wet, with a breeze and overcast skies throughout. Fortunately, the greens remained in great condition, but distance was affected by both the wind and the dampness.

LaCascia and Goltra had the only birdies for the round. Norihiro had fewest putts of the group. Goltra was closest to the pin on the par three, 12th hole.

Winners: Goltra got a first place with sensational six under 65; Digna Vesely, second, with a very good 1 under 70; third

The Monday and Friday Golf Leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. The courses the group plays are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and Eagles (two under par), although infrequent, are generously rewarded. Those interested should contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
