Mariann Klinger will speak Nov. 3

SENIOR PEACE CLUB

The Senior Peace Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9.

The featured speaker will be Mariann Klinger, a Leisure World resident and noted expert on the history of women’s rights. Her topic will be the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The ERA simply states: “Women shall have equal rights in the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” Despite being ratified by the required 38 states, the amendment remains in limbo as does the inclusion of women in the U.S. Constitution. Klinger will talk about the current status of the amendment and what the implications are for the women of this country.
