In October, Hui O Hula—the Leisure World Hawaiian dance club—starts preparing for the holiday season. Starting now, dancers learn popular holiday tunes such as Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas) by Jimmy Buffet, or Po La’i E (Silent Night) in class. Anyone, regardless of skill level, may join. Lessons are offered twice a week on Tuesday at Clubhouse 6 and Thursday at Veterans Plaza. Both classes start at 1 p.m. Beginners who want to learn basic steps may come at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dancers who enjoy entertaining with what they have learned in class are welcome to volunteer at the performances. Having fun dancing together is the goal. For more class information call (562) 4312242 or email Jojo@huiohula.com.

Donna O'Keefe from Mutual 15, who will celebrate her 90th birthday this October, performs “White Christmas: LA Style” at the Long Beach Marketplace over a decade ago. The club wishes her a happy birthday.
