Long Beach Symphony begins concert series with Beethoven

Residents are invited to enjoy a pre-concert Party on the Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 1, as the Long Beach Symphony opens its Classical Series season.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a selection of food trucks, cocktails, fire pits and lounge seating by the fountain. Following in the beautiful Terrace Theater, residents can enjoy the optional Concert Pre-Talk with Maestro Eckart Preu and Concertmaster violinist Roger Wilkie.

This presentation is a wonderful way to gain better understanding of the trio of beloved classical masterworks.

At 8 p.m., audiences can enjoy Sergei Prokofiev’s ebullient “Classical” symphony, among the composer’s most popular works.

Next, Concertmaster Roger Wilkie steps into the spotlight in Mendelssohn’s passionate “Violin Concerto.” The program concludes with the world’s most famous symphony and its majestic “bum bum bum BUM”—Ludwig van Beethoven’s richly triumphant “Symphony No. 5.” Residents can enjoy these masterpieces with a drink in hand with the newly introduced “Sip & Enjoy.” The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. at the Long Beach Terrace Theater, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., in Long Beach. Five-concert classical subscriptions start at $110, single tickets at $32, or a three-concert Sampler Pack for $99 (which can include Pops Series concerts). Tickets are available at www. LongBeachSymphony.org or by calling (562) 436-3203, ext. 1.

Transportation from LW to the Terrace Theater can be coordinated with Beverly Emus at beverly90740@gmail.com.
