Leisure World organist will celebrate milestone

Peter Bates has been a Leisure World resident since 2019. But his tenure as minister of music and resident organist at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Long Beach has been much longer. In fact, this past June he celebrated his 25th anniversary in service to that congregation; he is only the second person to hold this post in the church’s history. The church is home to one of the finest pipe organs in the area, a 1966, Boston-built, Aeolian-Skinner organ, which Bates puts through its paces at weekly services.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m., the church will celebrate this milestone as they present Bates in a solo organ recital. All are welcome to attend to hear the music of Bach, Franck, Price and others performed on this magnificent instrument.
