SHUFFLEBOARD

Shuffleboard League continued play on March 25. After a nip-and-tuck battle, the Hot Shots eked out a 10-8 win over the Sliders. The Hot Shots’ allgame winner was Roger Bennett, while the Sliders’ all-game winner was Harshad Patel. After 13 games, the Hot Shots are in first place, with Shufflers in second and Sliders third.

••• The Shuffleboard Club held its annual potluck St. Paddy’s dinner on March 12, with 24 people treated to homemade Italian and Korean pasta dishes, salads, Irish soda bread, and, of course, corned beef. After dinner, several rousing games of Left-Center-Right were played. The night’s winners were Sal LaScala, Doris Morton, Ellie West, Patty Peterson, Dave LaCascia, Red Ryals, Darlene Meyers, Jack O’Brien, Anita Giroud, Carrie Kistner, Chandra Patel, Sally Fowler and Penny Wright.

The annual Ham Shoot is scheduled for April 8. Sign-ups for this fun event highlighted by tests of players’ accuracy, finesse and skill are at the Clubhouse 1 Courts. All existing and new members are invited to attend the general meeting on May 11 at 5 p.m. at the Clubhouse 1 Courts. Nominations and elections for new and/or returning officers will be held.

The first Joan LaCascia tournament will be held on May 27. Each player will play three games, with the three highest total points scorers being rewarded. Play is limited to 24 people; sign-ups will begin later this month.

Practice times are Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Starting time for League play is 8:30 a.m. on Fridays. Players are asked to arrive on time to get a starting position.

BYOB practice nights, tournaments and other social events are planned throughout the year for Shuffleboard members and their guests.

Everyone is welcome to cease being a couch potato and get acquainted with the game while meeting and making friends with other LWers—and getting some gentle, beneficial exercise. In order to use the Shuffleboard Courts, people must be trained in court setup, maintenance and play, with the goal of becoming a participating club member. No partners are necessary; the only requirements are closed-toe shoes with non-skid soles. All other equipment is provided.
